The University of Georgia is set to extend the contract of head coach Kirby Smart.
Smart led UGA to their first football national championship in over 40 years when they defeated Alabama back in January.

“It’s just going through the process, taking your time,” Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks Thursday. “This is an important contract for [Smart] and for us, so it’s just all the little details. It’s typical stuff, nothing out of the ordinary. We’ve worked closely with his agent, and it’s been a great process.”
Smart, who is going on six years as Georgia head coach, makes slightly over $6 million a year, but this new contract will probably make him one of the top paid coaches in the country.
President Morehead said a new contract for Kirby Smart is being finalized….Terms will be delivered to the board in the coming weeks and at that time it will be announced the public…Morehead said it will be commiserate with other coaches who have won national championships.

Georgia president Jere Morehead confirms that Smart is about to become one of the highest-paid coaches in the country.
Kirby Smart and UGA are engaged in "long-term" contract extension discussions, UGA president Jere Morehead tells the athletic board.
Details of a long-term extension will be finalized "in the coming weeks," per Morehead. Terms not announced yet.

“It will be commensurate with what you would expect compensation to be for a national championship coach, but we’re close to finalizing those arrangements. I don’t think anybody will be surprised,” said Morehead.
Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney, and Jim Harbaugh are among the highest-paid coaches in the country and it sounds like Kirby Smart is about to join them. Given what he’s accomplished, it seems very fitting.
