This year’s NCAA women’s basketball tournament saw some unprecedented interest, and that was certainly reflected in the ticket sales for this weekend’s Women’s Final Four as all three games were sold out and tickets for Sunday afternoon’s national title game were more expensive than tickets to the men’s title game for the first time ever. And as LSU head coach Kim Mulkey points out, they even had to compete with Taylor Swift.
After the game, Kim Mulkey expressed her excitement that this year’s final four generated such a high level of interest.
“But to answer your question about the game, I love the fact that they told me our tickets were more expensive than the men’s tickets. There you go. Talk to me along those lines. I like that,” Mulkey said after the game according to On3. “You know what else, Taylor Swift’s in town, and we still sold this place out. Give kudos to the four teams that were here. Those four teams’ fan bases are unbelievable. You think about it, they showed up. And that’s what you want to see.”
The quote has since gone viral on social media.

This is the most I’ve ever seen the timeline this interested in Womens basketball. But they say women’s sports (specifically basketball) isn’t interesting.
I wanna see ticket sales.

minimum resale ticket this afternoon was $401 and this tournament set attendance records at every stage. we should be asking why the he women DON’T have 70K seats available.

Taylor Swift is a prominent advocate for women, so it’s safe to say she probably won’t mind if some people skipped her concert to go to the women’s Final Four.
