College football coaches are always on the go, and sometimes you need a quick pick-me-up in the form of an energy drink or two. Or in the case of LSU head coach Ed Orgeron, eight or 10.

Dang. That’s a lot of energy. Then again, Orgeron is known to pack plenty of energy in everything he does, which is one of the reasons why LSU decided to keep him on board as the football program’s head coach after serving as a player-favorite interim coach last season. But just how many energy drinks is Orgeron putting away on a regular basis? For that answer, we turn to the Dan Le Batard Show on ESPN Radio on Wednesday morning.

Asked about his energy drink consumption, Orgeron took a brief second to think about his consumption habits before replying “when I’m drinking them, I may go eight to 10.” Le Batard was beside himself in response.

“If we’re going to do something here at LSU, we’re doing it full speed,” Orgeron explained once the sports radio host composed himself.

That certainly puts Orgeron toward the top of the college football coach energy drink consumption power rankings. Orgeron just moved ahead of West Virginia’s Dana Holgorsen and UNC’s Larry Fedora in my post-spring power rankings.

Doctors will probably tell you consuming so many energy drinks is not healthy for the human body, but Orgeron is not afraid to consume what he wants in whatever quantities he desires. The good news is you can consume your fair share of Monster Energy Drinks before you could be put on your deathbed.

For example, this online caffeine calculator determined it would take 85.3 cans of Monster Energy Drink per day to kill me, and Orgeron has a few more pounds on me to his advantage. Orgeron consuming an eighth of that amount may not be advisable for most, but it seems to work well for Orgeron.

If nothing else, it’s time for college football coaches to start getting endorsement deals from energy drink companies. Cash in on those unhealthy dietary habits!
