Five-star athlete Mecole Hardman Jr. had a sweet spin on the hat stunt during commitment day.

Hardman Jr., who’s been scouted to play both on offense and on defense, was the 13th ranked recruit by 247sports.com. He decided the best way to announce where he’d commit was by placing cakes, not hats, as Tennessee, Michigan, Florida and Clemson seemed to be his final choices.

Except none of them were. Hardman Jr. totally faked everyone out and the cakes were just decoys. He went for the theatrical and announced his commitment by running through a banner in dramatic fashion, choosing Georgia.

That’s certainly one way to do it.

Hardman Jr. has been active on social media about his potential signing. He’s made multiple announcements about the event, where he might sign and has consistently been updating his list for followers to follow along with. In early January he posted his top-six list of schools but updated a couple weeks ago to include Ohio State.

Now you could argue Hardman Jr. is being a tad overly dramatic, but he’s a kid and he only gets to make the decision once. He’s allowed to have a little bit of fun with the decision as it’s obviously a huge deal to him. But I do wonder what happens to the cakes.
