Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski made headlines about a year ago when he revealed that he uses anonymous accounts on Twitter and Instagram. He once again talked about his social media use while appearing on the latest episode of J.J. Redick’s podcast.

Redick, who played for Krzyzewski at Duke, brings up a number of things with Krzyzewski, but his use of social media definitely seemed like the most interesting part of the conversation, via Fox Sports.

Redick: You seemed initially to be averse to new technology and social media, but in the last year I did learn that you have an Instagram account. I still don’t know what your username is, but I know that you see pics of my son.

Coach K: Well, and Twitter. I have an alias. I follow just about all of our former players, our current players, recruits and some key people. It just keeps me abreast of what’s going on. I love, you know like with your family, seeing the pictures. Keeps it close. I share them with my family.

But I don’t want anybody contacting me. I don’t want to have that type of dialogue. I’d rather call you or text you or whatever. I don’t personally want to have followers. Again, I’m not against anybody who does it, I like doing it this way.

And though no one knows Coach K’s usernames on Twitter and Instagram, his players usually know when the Duke coach is on social media. Former Blue Devil Jahlil Okafor said in 2015 that players could see when Krzyzewski was checking in on his players, especially while riding the team bus.

“When we’re on the bus, we always see his phone,” Okafor said. “He has the words really big. So we don’t know his Twitter name but we know he sees us on Instagram, we know he sees us on Twitter.”

Krzyzewski doesn’t open up on a lot of things these days, but his social media use is one he seems especially proud of. With the investigative nature of social media communities, it wouldn’t be surprising if Krzyzewski’s secret accounts are found one of these days.
