It appears the Minnesota Golden Gophers are having trouble selling tickets to their first two home games of the season, so they’re turning to a rather embarrassing promotion in order to fill the stands.

The Gophers open the 2022 college football season with two home games against the New Mexico State Lobos and the Western Illinois Leathernecks. Tickets to those games aren’t very expensive even if bought at face value – a fan can get into either game for $30 or less – but a new promotion is basically giving the tickets away.

Minnesota is partnering with Red Barron Pizza for an extremely generous promotion. If a fan buys three Red Barron pizzas, they can receive two Minnesota football tickets to either the New Mexico State game or the Western Illinois game.

To take advantage of the promotion, all fans have to do is purchase any three Red Baron Pizza products at participating stores from Aug. 7 to Aug. 28, then email their receipt to contests@gophersportsproperties.com with a message including your name, email address, and phone number.

Minnesota’s Huntington Bank Stadium has a listed capacity of 50,805. So it looks like Red Barron will have to sell quite a few pizzas if they’re going to fill every seat for their first two home games.
