The Ohio State Buckeyes are entering the 2021 college football season with what looks to be the top offense in the country behind star quarterback C.J. Stroud, but the team lost one of its playmakers this week to a season-ending injury.

According to a report from Austin Ward of Rivals.com, the Buckeyes will be without star second-year running back Evan Pryor after he suffered a season-ending knee injury during preseason camp on Monday.

Pryor took to Twitter to react to his devasting injury.

“Appreciate all of the prayers and get well wishes,” Pryor Tweeted. “But this is just the start to an amazing story. I will be back.”

Coming out of high school, Pryor was rated as the No. 6 running back and No. 83 overall high school prospect in the 2020 recruiting class. While he is not Ohio State’s starting running back and was expected to play behind record-setting freshman TreVeyon Henderson, Pryor did have a strong spring game performance and was generating some preseason buzz in Ohio State’s camp.

With Pryor now unavailable, the Buckeyes have just two scholarship running backs available. Henderson will lead the group as the team’s returning starter, and veteran Miyan Williams will get plenty of carries, as well. Behind Henderson and Williams, four-star true freshman Dallan Hayden could now be in line for more carries.

No. 2 Ohio State opens its 2021 season with a top-five showdown with No. 5 Notre Dame on Sept. 3 in Ohio Stadium.
