Sometimes, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat happen to the same athlete. That’s what took place with Pitt Panthers’ redshirt senior kicker Alex Kessman Saturday on the road against the Boston College Eagles. In the final seconds of regulation, Kessman hit a career-long 58-yard field goal to force overtime, but in overtime, he found less success. Eagles’ quarterback Phil Jurkovec found Zay Flowers for a 25-yard touchdown pass on Boston College’s first overtime possession, but the Panthers responded with a Taysir Marck touchdown reception from Kenny Pickett. Kessman then missed that extra point, though, giving BC a 31-30 win. His reaction (he’s #97) to that OT miss is seen above; here are those two kicks.

That’s a brutal turn of events for Kessman and Pitt. The Panthers are now 3-2 on the year, while the Eagles are 3-1.
