It might be December but we got an early taste of March Madness today. In the Crossroads Classic between Indiana and Butler, the game was coming down to the wire. Tied with a minute to go, it looked like we were getting a classic in Indianapolis.

So as Indiana had possession had the final seconds, they looked at what they were going to do. Do you push it up to Juwan, who already had 35 points? No. Do you give Romeo Langford, who had 13 points, the shot? They tried but couldn’t. Instead, as the play was breaking down, it was freshman Rob Phinisee, who heaved the shot from nearly 30 feet at the buzzer to get the 71-68 win.

Talk about clutch. Definitely worthy of Bill Raftery yelling “Onions!” Phinisee talked about the game winning shot.

Before we know it, it’ll be March and the NCAA tournament will bring this kind of nonstop excitement. This’ll surely help hold us over.
