Stanford Cardinal outfielder Angelo Rios just made an incredible throw to nab a runner at home in the College World Series.
Stanford and Tennessee are doing battle in Omaha as the College World Series trudges on. In the first inning, the Cardinal faced a predicament. The Vols had two on with just one out and held a 3-2 count.
LHP Quinn Mathews dealt the pitch to designated hitter Griffin Merritt. Merritt hit a sky-high ball to left field. Rios traveled under it and got the out, which set the stage for the next play. Leadoff hitter Maui Ahuna, on third base, then tried to beat Rios’ arm to score a run.
It did not go the way he planned. Rios got Ahuna out by plenty of feet to record a big double play to get the Cardinal out of a jam.

The Cardinal were quick to take advantage of the double play. They scored two runs in the bottom stanza and added two more later, as Stanford currently holds a 4-0 lead over Tennessee. So already, the big play by Rios paid massive dividends for his team. As does the fact that he’s credited for two of their four runs on a double and then a sacrifice fly.
