Kentucky men’s basketball player Derek Willis was found in a very compromising position Saturday night. The forward consumed a few too many alcoholic drinks, and was found by police passed out on the street next to his open driver’s side door.

Willis, who is 20 years old and not of legal drinking age, was arrested in Union, Kentucky for a first and second offense of public intoxication. He was released on a $50 bail.

WCPO received dash cam video of the arrest from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

The video shows Willis laying on his side with his body and head extending well into the middle of the street. An officer and a team of paramedics eventually rouse the forward from his drunken slumber before cuffing him and taking him into custody.

Willis will undoubtedly deal with numerous repercussions for this incident, legal and otherwise, but this situation could have been much worse. Not only is Willis lucky he was not struck by a passing vehicle, he should also feel fortunate that his body shut down before he made an even greater mistake — getting behind the wheel of his car.
