The Virginia Cavaliers were equipped with one of the more talented teams in college basketball last season, and just as they are this year, were a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Their hopes for a title came to a screeching halt last year when the Michigan State Spartans defeated them. After drawing Michigan State in their bracket again this season, it left a lot of Cavaliers fans nervous that they could see the same thing happen in consecutive years.

Of course, Michigan State wouldn’t even come close to making that happen, as they were upset by Middle Tennessee State in the first round, arguably the greatest upset in tournament history.

This left Virginia fans so grateful, that they were making donations to Middle Tennessee State:

Although the Spartans are out of the picture, the Cavaliers still have to take care of their own business. They are set to take on Butler Saturday evening, and still have the likes of third-seeded Utah, and fourth-seeded Iowa State still waiting for a chance to upset them.

At the very least, right now they can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they won’t have to relive the same nightmare from 2015. But if Virginia is unable to make it to the Final Four, some might be regretting those donations.

After all, it’s March. Anything can happen.
