For years, crazed sports fans have been naming their children after their favorite sports heroes and stars, perhaps to live out some fantasy in which dad is the proud parent of a five-time MVP or four-time championship coach. In the state of Alabama, you know there are a bunch of kids named after the legends of Alabama or Auburn football. That just goes with the territory, but any parent can name their son Nick, after Nick Saban. It takes a real George Costanza type to name a kid using Saban’s last name instead.
The Wall Street Journal reports every year since Saban was hired, there have been some newborn children named Saban. Of course, what happens when a family welcomes a baby girl to the family? You guessed it. They get a name like Sabine or Sabiana. Unfortunately, we do not have a tally for how many times that has happened, but records in Tuscaloosa County have these names on file.
Hey, maybe it could have been worse. They could have named their kids Seven…
