On Friday afternoon, the San Francisco 49ers shared a pretty major announcement about team’s future, announcing contract extensions for both head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch.

As the Niners pointed out in their announcement, the duo has been quite successful since joining the 49ers five years ago.

“The duo joined the 49ers in February of 2017 and have since led the organization to the postseason three times, claimed two NFC West division titles (2019 & 2022), reached three NFC Championship games (2019 & 2021-22) and a trip to Super Bowl LIV. Under their leadership, the 49ers have posted a regular season record of 55-46 over the past seven seasons and gone 6-3 in the playoffs. Since 2019, San Francisco’s 45 wins are tied for the fourth-most in the NFL and are the second-most in the NFC,” the 49ers said in a release on Friday.

It’s a pretty major announcement for the team, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on social media as a result.

Under the leadership of Lynch and Shanahan, the Niners have emerged as one of the most dominant teams in the NFC over the past several years and appear to have a strong future ahead of the team, especially under new quarterback Brock Purdy.
