Brock Purdy is dealing with unfamiliar territory with his third-straight loss of the season on Sunday. A stark difference from winning the first 10 games of his career.
Alas, the 31-17 fall to the Cincinnati Bengals had those questioning Purdy and what he’s able to bring to the 49ers’ offense. Head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn’t see any issue, however.
When asked if Shanahan would consider a change at the play-caller position, he simply answered, “No.”
“Because no one just changes their quarterback for no reason,” Shanahan said via Pro Football Talk.
The interceptions were in rare form for the 23-year-old as well who hadn’t thrown an interception in his first 13 starts, which included the playoffs. In his last three games? Five interceptions.
On Sunday alone, Purdy had three turnovers in the second half.
Shanahan acknowledged the bad picks from Purdy so he knows his quarterback was part of the blame, but it doesn’t appear he’ll be calling on QB2 Sam Darnold anytime soon.
Shanahan isn’t alone in throwing the towel in on Purdy, either. Hall of Fame QB Kurt Warner took to social media to support him.
“Those people out there saying Brock Purdy is struggling aren’t watching the games,” Warner wrote on Twitter/X. “Young man is playing some really good football — making all kinds of plays (not without mistakes, but who does)!!! Quit looking at stats — they should back the narrative NOT create it!”

Purdy didn’t shy away from how he’s been playing either, after the game.
“Obviously I want to play better for this team, for this organization,” Purdy said Sunday. “Just taking care of the ball, some crucial parts of the game — that’s the NFL, man … in terms of yeah — three losses, as a quarterback, you take a lot, I take that on myself where I can be better for this team, helping us win, but man — who I am, what I stand for, that doesn’t change.”
