The San Francisco 49ers dominated the second half en route to a blowout victory over rival Seattle in Saturday’s Wild Card playoff game.
The 49ers trailed 17-16 at the half after Seahawks kicker Jason Myers booted a 56-yard field goal. San Francisco promptly responded by thumping their NFC West division rivals for the entire duration of the second half. Their dominance was displayed both on the scoreboard and on the stat sheet.
As Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times tweeted, it was a second-half rout. “49ers tack on field goal to take a 41-17 lead with 4:56 left. 49ers have outscored 25-0 in second half and out-gained them 245-83,” Condotta tweeted.

While Seattle scored after this tweet was made, that merely made it 25-6 after they scored on a 2-point conversion. The splits were still quite lopsided though, as San Francisco outgained them
It was a thorough beatdown in the second half. The 49ers laid the lumber with their top-ranked defense and made quick strikes with their explosive offense. They showed why they’re one of the most fearsome teams in the league and why they could represent the NFC in Super Bowl 57.
With San Francisco’s win on Saturday, they now await whoever’s next. Should Minnesota defeat New York, the 49ers will host the Vikings next weekend. If the Giants win, then San Francisco will face the winner of Dallas-Tampa Bay.
