With Aaron Rodgers publically breaking his silence on Wednesday afternoon, it’s clear that the star quarterback intends to play for the New York Jets next season, seeking a trade from the Green Bay Packers. But even though everyone is ready to move on, the two sides have not been able to work out a deal.

According to a report from NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Packers seem to want a hefty trade package in return for Aaron Rodgers. Meanwhile, the Jets don’t feel like they should have to give up all that much considering the Packers no longer want Rodgers anyway.

“Per multiple sources, the Packers want a first-round pick and more from the Jets for Rodgers,” Florio wrote on Thursday morning. “The Packers want more than a first-round pick as part of the base deal. They want protection in 2025, in the event Rodgers plays in 2024. And that’s more than the Jets believe they should surrender for a player the Packers no longer want.”

It feels inevitable that Rodgers will eventually join the Jets, but it’s recently becoming clear that it could take quite a bit of negotiation until things ultimately get to that point.
