A couple of years ago, star quarterback Aaron Rodgers caused quite a stir when he boldly suggested that he put the Green Bay Packers on the map, suggesting that the only reason players signed with Green Bay during free agency was to play alongside him. Unfortunately for him, some recent events are leading people to doubt that theory.

This week, veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell revealed to Josina Anderson that Aaron Rodgers texted him during free agency in an attempt to recruit him to sign with the New York Jets – where Rodgers is expected to be traded before the start of the 2023 NFL season. Campbell claims that Rodgers told him he wanted them to win a Super Bowl together, according to Ari Meirov.

“#Falcons DL Calais Campbell told @JosinaAnderson that Aaron Rodgers texted him during FA to join the #Jets so they can win a Super Bowl together,” Meirov said in a tweet on Thursday.

Campbell politely turned him down.

“It was appealing to have him text you, but I kept getting a feeling that Atlanta was a special place,” Campbell said. “It was a tough decision.”

This certainly doesn’t provide a lot of evidence for Rodgers’ suggestion that players want to play with him, and the NFL world absolutely roasted him for it.

This certainly isn’t a great look for Rodgers.
