At long last, it appears that Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers is ready to make a decision on his future. While there is still radio silence from Rodgers’ side of things, the New York Jets, who flew to meet with the 39-year-old in his Malibu home on Tuesday, are reportedly optimistic about their chances of landing the future Hall-of-Famer.
ESPN NFL insider Dianna Russini broke the news early Thursday morning. Russini’s report is the first substantial update since the Jets team plane touched down in New Jersey early Wednesday morning.
“In the wake of an extensive in-person meeting between Aaron Rodgers [and] New York Jeys brass, including owner Woody Johnson, there’s optimism that they are on the brink of landing the future Hall of Fame QB, sources close to the situation tell ESPN,” Russini tweeted Thursday.

While Russini reports that optimism existed before the California meeting, Johnson — the Jets chairman — felt it was important to meet in person. Sources told Russini that Johnson left the meeting excited and satisfied about the potential match.
Now, the Jets are working internally under an optimism that the trade will happen. The Packers, who are reportedly willing to meet Rodgers’ demands one way or another, are engaged in conversations about potential compensation and contract.
“Those conversations already started before the meeting,” wrote Russini.
We’ll have to see if the Jets are able to close a deal on Rodgers, but a trade appears closer than it ever has before.
