The Arizona Cardinals finished their 2022-2023 season with a 38-13 shellacking at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

That sent the Cardinals to 4-13 on the season, good enough for last place in the NFC West.

The Cardinals wasted little time clearing house. The franchise announced the firing of third-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury on Monday. Not even an hour later, the organization announced that general manager Steve Keim would be stepping away from the team due to his health:

“We have announced that head coach Kliff Kingsbury has been relieved of his duties. In addition, General Manager Steve Keim has decided to step away from his position to focus on his health.

“The team wishes them well and thanks both for their contributions.”

Kleim played football collegiately at North Carolina State. He played one year in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins before becoming a regional scout with the Cardinals in 1999. He rose through the ranks with the single franchise before becoming general manager in 2013, a position he held until Monday.

Kingsbury likely spoke for both him and Klein following the loss on Sunday:

“As a coach you learn along the way,” Kingsbury said, according to arizonacardinals.com. “Each and every step I think there are things that I’ll take from this and be a better coach moving forward. But you have to go through a season like this to try and make those changes moving forward.”
