While it seems like Kyler Murray still isn’t quite ready to return to action yet for the Arizona Cardinals, the team will not be starting Joshua Dobbs at quarterback this Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

Instead, the plan appears to be for Arizona to start 2023 fifth-round draft pick Clayton Tune, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“Barring a significant change of plans, Cardinals rookie Clayton Tune is expected to start this week, sources say. Kyler Murray may still play, but next week is more likely as of now,” Rapoport tweeted Monday evening.

Dobbs has thrown for 1,569 yards with eight touchdowns and five interceptions in his eight starts for the 1-7 Cardinals.

Murray, who returned to practice last week after suffering a season-ending ACL injury last December, may still see action depending on how this week in practice goes. If he’s unable to make his return against Cleveland, he will almost certainly start the following week against the Atlanta Falcons, as Murray’s 21-day window to be removed from the PUP list would lapse the week of that game.

After a five-year college career with the Houston Cougars, the Cardinals selected Tune in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Tune’s senior season at Houston was the best of his collegiate career when he threw for 40 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions and passed for 4,069 yards. He was named to the All-AAC First Team for his efforts.
