While Lamar Jackson continues to figure out if the Baltimore Ravens or any other NFL team will sign him to a new contract, the question of why many other teams aren’t pursuing him lingers.
Apparently, one team almost decided to pursue Jackson and that was the Atlanta Falcons.
There have been rumors for months the Falcons were considering going after Jackson but owner Arthur Blank put those rumors to bed, saying recently they plan to stick with Desmond Ridder this season at quarterback.
But it didn’t mean that the team didn’t seriously consider signing Jackson.
Come for the Falcons HC talking about his team’s decision making process on @Lj_era8 vs. Ridder, stay for him blindsiding me with @BussinWTB https://t.co/Y2aKq3iEkD

Blank said this about signing Jackson on The Rich Eisen Show.
“Everything that becomes available around the league, if it can improve your roster, we discuss. That’s at every position, whether that’s the fifth corner or the backup gunner on a punt. We’re always going to look to add at every position,” Smith said when asked if the Falcons had discussed Jackson. “Those discussions happen all day, every day. I understand some players get more attention than others, but absolutely we did.”
Despite Blank’s interest in Jackson, that still doesn’t answer the question as to why no NFL team is pursuing one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
If the Falcons had signed Jackson, they would not only be a playoff contender but possibly a Super Bowl contender as well.
