Baker Mayfield may not quite be Tom Brady for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he’s been a strong performer that’s led them to a 3-1 record through their first four games of the season. And it sounds like head coach Todd Bowles is happy about his performance.
During his press conference on Monday, Bowles praised Baker Mayfield for his toughness and his ability to lead the team throughout this season.
“Baker’s tough. I say it up here all the time,” head coach Todd Bowles said during his Monday press conference according to Pro Football Talk. “You don’t want him taking too many of those, but he’s tough, he’s gritty, [and] he’s a very smart football player. He’s a competitor, he’s been like that his whole life, it hasn’t changed.
“He has a lot to prove, he’s having fun out there, he understands the offense, he’s using every piece of [weaponry] that we give him, and he’s having a good time.”
So far this season, Mayfield is completing 69.6 percent of his passes for 882 yards with seven touchdowns with just two interceptions. If he maintains these numbers, he’s on pace for career highs in both passer rating and completion percentage in his entire NFL career.
