The Cincinnati Bengals needed to find a quarterback to back up starter Joe Burrow and they have signed former Denver Broncos starter Trevor Siemian.

Siemian will now back up Burrow this upcoming season and he seems to be excited for the opportunity. The 31-year-old veteran has had 30 starts as an NFL quarterback. He has also started games for the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears.

“I Iike how good the team is, and I like how well-coached they are,” Siemian told Bengals.com on his decision to join Cincinnati. “I think any time you have a chance to play for a club that’s winning a lot of games, that’s a cool opportunity for any player and especially attractive for me.”

Another factor that may have helped Siemian land in Cincinnati is his relationship with Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan.

Callahan served as an offensive assistant for the Broncos when Siemian was the quarterback, so it probably didn’t hurt for him to have that connection. Siemian knows Callahan’s offense just in case something does happen to Burrow.

Burrow suffered a knee injury in his rookie season but he has been injury free of late. Still, it is always nice to have an insurance policy, especially a veteran like Siemian.

Bengals fans are hoping the team won’t have to face that dilemma this season.
