Bill Belichick Syndication: Arizona Republic

Before signing with the Tennessee Titans, veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was also interested in signing with the New England Patriots. But that ultimately didn’t happen, and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was asked about the missed opportunity this week.

On Tuesday, Bill Belichick was asked his reaction to the Tennessee Titans signing DeAndre Hopkins instead of the New England Patriots, and he had a pretty blunt response.

“We talked to a number of players from the middle of June until now,” Belichick said in his press conference according to Pro Football Talk. “[We’ll] talk to other players now. So, there’s a lot of roster movement this time of year.”

If Belichick was disappointed that the team didn’t land Hopkins, he didn’t necessarily show it.

“It’s like hundreds of other players we deal with over the course of the year,” Belichick said. “We have so many roster spots, some sign here, some sign somewhere else. When there’s an agreement, there’s an agreement. When there’s not, there’s 31 other teams.”

The Patriots might be a little bit disappointed that Hopkins ultimately signed elsewhere, but it doesn’t really sound like Belichick is too concerned about it.

We’ll have to see how both teams do this year.
