Former NFL star quarterback Brett Favre got an unfavorable ruling last month when a judge dismissed his defamation suit against Fox Sports analyst Shannon Sharpe. But based on a recent move, it’s clear that Favre isn’t willing to concede his case against Sharpe quite yet.
A.J. Perez of Front Office Sports reported on Wednesday night that Brett Favre has decided to appeal the judge’s decision to dismiss his defamation case against Shannon Sharpe.
“NEWS: Brett Favre will appeal a federal judge’s decision to dismiss the defamation lawsuit he filed against Shannon Sharpe. The notice of appeal to the 5th Circuit was filed tonight,” A.J. Perez of Front Office Sports wrote in a post for X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

The origin of the defamation suit stems from comments that Sharpe made during an episode of ‘Undisputed’ regarding Favre’s alleged involvement in a scheme to misallocate Mississippi welfare funds. During the show, Sharpe said that Favre “stole money from people that really needed that money.” In the initial decision, the judge determined that no reasonable person would think that Favre committed literal larceny based on Sharpe’s comments. But Favre seems to disagree.
It’s a major move for Favre as he continues this legal battle, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media as a result.
He’s really worried about the wrong thing. Go worry about your case Brett. Stealing them people’s money SMH https://t.co/8LYSMMj2aL

If I were Favre I’d do everything possible to stay out of a court room but, sure. https://t.co/lAMdu788co

If the decision is overturned in a year or so, it could head that way. But Sharpe’s legal team has the best shot in this appeal.

The appeals process could a year or longer, so we may not have a final answer in this case for quite a while.
