The Buffalo Bills made a lot of news Wednesday, as they released multiple players in other to get salary cap compliant before the new league year gets underway next week.

The team announced that safety Jordan Poyer, center Mitch Morse, defensive back Siran Neal, wide receiver Deonte Harty, and running back Nyheim Hines all had been released Wednesday afternoon.

Those five players combined to play 297 career games for the Bills, with Poyer and Morse leading the way, having been with the team since 2017 and 2019, respectively.

Buffalo’s day wasn’t over, however. ESPN’s Adam Schefter later added that two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Tre’Davious White, who has been with Buffalo since being selected 27th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, was also being released as a cap casualty.

Buffalo’s secondary was most impacted by the releases, losing multiple key pieces that will now need to be replaced either via free agency or next month’s NFL Draft.

While cornerback Rasul Douglas wasn’t released, his contract was restructured to save an additional $2.5 million, per Schefter.

Poyer, along with free agent safety Micah Hyde developed a reputation as one of the NFL’s best safety tandems over the past couple of seasons, with Poyer being named to the All-Pro First Team in 2021 and making his first career Pro Bowl in 2022. Hyde was named to the All-Pro Second Team in 2021.

Social media had a lot to say about the Bills’ releases.
