With the Los Angeles Rams choosing to sit starting quarterback Matthew Stafford in this week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers after already clinching a postseason spot, backup Carson Wentz will make his first NFL start since last season, and it sounds like he is excited about the opportunity.

While Los Angeles has clinched a spot in the playoffs, a win would help them lock up the No. 3 seed in the postseason. Carson Wentz is excited to be able to play in a game for the first time in “a long time,” especially one that still has some small playoff stakes.

“We’ll see how the week goes with all of that on their end as well, but I’m excited for it,” Wentz said. “I’ve played a couple times down there in San Fran and it’s a fun environment. It’s going to be hopefully a beautiful Sunday afternoon in California.

“Excited to go get a chance and yes, there is still some stuff to play for and there’s things at stake and it’s January. I haven’t played a game in a long time so I’m excited for it.”

We’ll have to see how Wentz performs after being given this opportunity.
