During most NFL head coaching searches, interviews are not necessarily made public by the team and are instead conducted largely outside of the public eye. But that was certainly not the case for the Los Angeles Chargers’ most recent interview with Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh.
On Monday afternoon, the Los Angeles Chargers official account announced that the team had brought in Jim Harbaugh for an interview, confirming news reports from various outlets and making it clear that they have targeted him for their next head coach.
“we’ve completed an interview with Jim Harbaugh for head coach,” the Los Angeles Chargers official account said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Obviously, this is a pretty significant announcement, especially considering teams do not typically announce head coach interviews like this, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media as a result.

I feel like we rarely see NFL teams announce their interviews with a college head coach https://t.co/e9LzE7JAiB

Do NFL teams usually post stuff like this? https://t.co/raoVCKUNSl

Aren’t things like that typically private? 😂 https://t.co/qWqNm7XArg

Obviously, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the team will ultimately hire Harbaugh, but the very fact that they were willing to announce the move on social media – and share a flattering article along with the post – seems to indicate that he is a very real candidate for the job.
