The Chicago Bears are dealing with multiple injuries at the quarterback position, which caused what may be a very telling move by their front office on Wednesday.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Bears have signed Tim Boyle off of the Detroit Lions‘ practice squad.

Bears starting quarterback Justin Fields’ status for their Week 13 matchup against the Green Bay Packers appears to be up in the air, dealing with a left shoulder injury.

Their backup quarterback Trevor Siemian is also dealing with an oblique injury that he bizarrely suffered during pregame warmups on Sunday against the New York Jets.

The Bears’ decision to sign Boyle could be an indication that either Fields or Siemian may not be able to play against the Packers this weekend.

It could come down to the Bears starting either Boyle or third-string quarterback Nathan Peterman against Green Bay.

Boyle has failed to inspire much confidence thus far in his three-year NFL career, losing all three of his career starts while throwing three touchdowns and six interceptions in those games.

This season has not gone well for Chicago thus far, currently sitting at 3-9 on the season.

Perhaps the only silver lining on the season thus far is that Fields has looked great in spurts this year, and the team may hold a very valuable pick in the 2023 NFL Draft should they continue to struggle for the remainder of the year.
