The Kansas City Chiefs are going back to the Super Bowl for the second straight season but will be without one of their best defensive players.

Pass rusher Charles Omenihu suffered a torn ACL Sunday in Kansas City’s AFC Championship victory over the Baltimore Ravens Sunday.

Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz had the news first on Monday.

While the team has yet to confirm the news, Omenihu seemingly did just that on his X account when he posted a broken heart emoji.

Omenihu played a big role in Kansas City’s victory over Baltimore on Sunday, forcing a Lamar Jackson fumble on a strip sack early in the second quarter.

Omenihu was originally drafted by the Houston Texans in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and recorded seven sacks over three seasons with the team before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers, coincidentally Kansas City’s opponent in Super Bowl LVIII. He recorded four and a half sacks for the Niners in the 2022 season and signed with Kansas City in the offseason.

After missing the first six games of the 2023 season following a suspension stemming from a domestic violence incident in the offseason, Omenihu recorded a career-high seven and a half sacks in 11 games for Kansas City, forcing two fumbles, as well.
