The Kansas City Chiefs and their players are speaking out in the wake of Wednesday’s tragic shooting at their Super Bowl celebration.

One person was killed and up to 15 other people were injured after a shooting at Union Station near the conclusion of the team’s victory parade. Police quickly took two men into custody.

The Chiefs issued a statement on X/Twitter after the incident.

“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today’s parade and rally,” the statement read.

“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and all of Kansas City.

“We are in close communication with the Mayor’s office as well as the Kansas City Police Department.

“At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for.

“We thank the local law enforcement officers and first responders who were on-scene to assist.”

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and many Chiefs players were hailed for stepping forward to assist following the shooting. Reid comforted one fan who got injured fleeing the shooting. NFL insider Albert Breer reported that “players were UNBELIEVABLE calming panicked kids down.”

Players and coaches left the scene in busses, “in shock,” according to Breer. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and others later issued statements on social media and the NFL community responded to the Chiefs’ statement.
