The NFL announced Friday it had suspended Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu for the 2023 NFL season’s first six games over a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.

The issue stems from a January incident when Omenihu, then with the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested in San Jose, California on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence. Per police, a woman saying she was Omenihu’s girlfriend told them that he pushed her to the ground.

Omenihu signed with the Chiefs during the offseason.

The defensive end can continue to practice with the team during training camp and is allowed to play in preseason games. However, he will have to wait until Week 7 of the NFL season before he can play in an official game.

The 25-year-old spent his previous seasons with the Houston Texans and 49ers. So far, he was practicing with the first-time defense in Cheifs camp, though he has missed the last two days because of a calf injury.

The situation creates a hole on defense for Kansas City, who is also dealing with tackle Chris Jones’s holdout while he looks for a better contract. The team did pick defensive ends in the last two NFL drafts and has George Karlaftis and Felix Anudike-Uzomah available to step into the position for now.
