Last season, superstar running back Christian McCaffrey joined the San Francisco 49ers in the middle of the season after a trade from the Carolina Panthers. As a result, he was never fully comfortable in the offense as he was just trying to learn it.

But this offseason, Christian McCaffrey has made it clear that he has had the opportunity to truly master the team’s offense.

“Yeah, it’s much better,” McCaffrey said according 49ers Webzone. “OTAs were great, just to really understand the concepts and really, not just learn the running back position, but the whole offense, and understand timing with what the quarterback sees and what Kyle sees, and getting timing right with the O-line, and [fullback Kyle Juszczyk], and the tight ends. So coming into camp, you’re not playing catch up. So it’s been great to be able to kind of not just learn the offense, but master it.”

McCaffrey had a strong season with the San Francisco 49ers after the trade even despite joining the team late in the season. It will certainly be interesting to see how he is able to perform this season with a full offseason spent mastering the offense and learning his role.
