Ever since joining the San Francisco 49ers by way of a trade last season, superstar running back Christian McCaffrey has been dominant and consistent. In fact, he’s been so consistently dominant that he’s on the verge of tying a longstanding NFL record this week.
If 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey scores a touchdown during this week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, it would mark the 17th consecutive game in which McCaffrey has found the end zone. While this is an undeniably impressive stat even without any context, it would also be a historic milestone.
As Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk points out, this would tie an NFL record that has stood for nearly 60 years.
“The record currently belongs to Lenny Moore of the Baltimore Colts, who scored a touchdown in every game from October 27, 1963 to December 13, 1964. (These records include postseason games; Moore’s streak ended when he failed to score a touchdown in the Colts’ playoff loss in 1964, while McCaffrey scored touchdowns in all three of the 49ers’ playoff games last season),” Smith wrote for Pro Football Talk this week.
It’s pretty insane news that McCaffrey is approaching this record, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media.
As his coach (fantasy league) I can say we are very proud of him.
