When the Houston Texans selected former Ohio State Buckeyes star quarterback C.J. Stroud with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, they undoubtedly hoped that he would make an instant impact on the team. So far, he’s done much more than that.

As Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk points out, not only is C.J. Stroud having a strong season during his first year with the Houston Texans, but he is on pace to have by far the most dominant rookie season in the history of the NFL.

At his current pace, it looks like Stroud will absolutely shatter the single-season rookie passing record set by Indianapolis Colts superstar Andrew Luck over a decade ago.

“Through nine games, Stroud has 2,625 passing yards, which puts him on pace for 4,958 yards in a 17-game season. That would obliterate the current rookie record of 4,374 yards, set by Andrew Luck in 2012. At his current pace, Stroud would break Luck’s record in the 15th game of this season,” Smith wrote for Pro Football Talk.

At this point, Stroud is the runaway favorite to win the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. But with the way he’s played, there’s a very real chance that he has now inserted himself into the NFL MVP conversation as well.
