C.J. Stroud Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud (7) calls a play during the second quarter of the NCAA football game against the Michigan State Spartans at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021. Michigan State Spartans At Ohio State Buckeyes Football

The Houston Texans selected former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud with the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft and then turned right around and selected Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Will Anderson with the No. 3 pick after acquiring it from the Arizona Cardinals. But if that didn’t happen, Stroud knew exactly who he wanted the team to select.

During his press conference after the selection, Stroud made it clear that he would have loved for the team to select former teammate Jaxon Smith-Njigba. In fact, he said he would give his left leg to make it happen.

“Man, I’m praying for it,” Stroud said about the possibility of the team drafting Smith-Njigba. “I ain’t gonna lie, if they didn’t get Will, if they got Jaxon at 12, I would have been super happy. But I’m super happy for Will to be my teammate. But if they could somehow finesse and get back into the first round, I’ll give something – I’ll give my left leg. I can hobble and throw the ball around with Jaxon – he’s that good. I’m excited to see where he goes. I hope it’s the Texans, we’ll see. I don’t know if we have another first-round pick – I doubt it.”

Obviously, the Texans were not able to select Jaxon Smith-Njigba as he was selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the No. 20 overall pick. So Stroud will have to find a new favorite target.
