Last month, the Indianapolis Colts traded five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore to the Dallas Cowboys in return for a fifth-round pick, essentially unloading his sizable contract to a new team. And it sounds like the Colts think it was a good move for everyone involved.

During a press conference this week, Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard said that he thinks the trade could be beneficial for both the team and Stephon Gilmore.

“I think it was good for both of us,” Ballard said according to NFL Media. “He’s just at a point in his career that, he’s at the end of his career. I thought he was a decent fit for the defense. But a chance to get a pick for him in the last year of his deal, shed a little bit of the contract money off. I thought was good for both of us, be able to send him to Dallas, which is a good spot and a good fit defensively for him. That kind of went into it.”

Gilmore missed the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2017 last year. We’ll have to see if he can return that Pro Bowl form next season.
