The Indianapolis Colts have acknowledged that the NFL is investigating a player on the team and their involvement in a new gambling scandal. A Colts player reportedly is the target of a new NFL investigation, as they potentially violated the league’s gambling policy.

News emerged on Monday afternoon that the Colts player was under investigation. Not long after, the Colts revealed they knew of the investigation. Stephen Holder of ESPN tweeted, “NEWS: The Indianapolis Colts have acknowledged an ongoing NFL investigation of an unnamed player for violations of the league’s gambling policy.

‘We are aware of the NFL’s investigation and will have no further comment at this time,’ a team official said.”

The Colts would be the latest team hit with gambling violations as a recent trend continues in the league. Jameson Williams of the Detroit Lions was among a few Lions penalized recently for violating the policies. Additionally, Calvin Ridley is on the heels of a one-year suspension for violating the league’s gambling policies. Gambling regulations have made it easier to track these things, so penalties are starting to emerge.

The player who committed the violations hasn’t been disclosed yet. With this process moving, that’s probably the next domino to fall. Given the precedent, it’s possible that the player will face stiff penalties for the violations.
