Indianapolis Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew (10) throws the ball against the Tennessee Titans during the second quarter at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023.

Despite losing starting quarterback Anthony Richardson for the season after five weeks, the Indianapolis Colts have rebounded well enough to hold the AFC’s final playoff spot entering play on Sunday.

At 6-5 entering the afternoon, Indianapolis has been willed back into contention thanks to solid efforts across all facets.

Sometimes it’s the offense, sometimes it’s the defense, and sometimes it’s Indianapolis’ special teams shining through, as was the case late in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

Down by one point with Tennessee set to punt, Colts linebacker Grant Stuard got to the punt before Titans punter Ryan Stonehouse could kick it away, resulting in a blocked punt which Stuard was able to haul into the end zone.

The Colts went for two to try and go up by seven, but Titans safety Amani Hooker intercepted Minshew’s attempt and took it to the Tennessee end zone to net the Titans two points and keep them within six.

Just two minutes later, on Tennessee’s next punt attempt, the Colts blocked another one. This time, Stonehouse was injured on the play and the Colts were held to a field goal.

Tennessee went on to drive down the field and tie the game back up at 25, but Nick Folk’s extra point try was wide left, resulting in the score staying tied.
