In a season filled with some ups and many downs, the Washington Commanders have announced they will be revealing their new mascot soon, and depending on which one they choose, it could cause a legal issue.
The choices have come down to two animals: a dog and a hog. While the hog would be the obvious choice for the team mascot, they may run into an issue with some former players about the use of that name.
The Hogs was the nickname given to the Washington offensive lineman who would block for the likes of quarterback Joe Theismann and running back John Riggins.
On Sunday, the Washington Commanders are set to unveil their new mascot.

Here comes the problem. The Commanders might have a trademark issue with several formal Washington players who are part of an LCC formed by some of the original Hogs: Joe Jacoby, Mark May, John Riggins, Fred Dean, and Doc Walker. If the team goes through with this on Sunday, there might be hell to pay according to their attorney representing them.
“If they go forward on Sunday and make the hog their mascot and try to trademark it, we are going to be forced into trademark infringement litigation,” O-Line Entertainment attorney Seth Berenzweig said to Front Office Sports.
With the legal issues already facing the team and owner Dan Snyder, it will be interesting to see if the team actually goes through with this mascot pick.
