The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly found the fan to replace Dan Quinn as defensive coordinator.

Mike Zimmer, who was head coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 2014-2021 and was an assistant on Dallas’ staff from 1994-2006, is reportedly the man who will replace Quinn, who left the Cowboys to become head coach of the Washington Commanders.

Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network that the Cowboys “are expected to hire Mike Zimmer as their defensive coordinator.”

Before the NFL Honors show on NFL Network, team Jerry Jones was interviewed. Jones spoke highly of Quinn. And while he didn’t name Zimmer, Jones did reference conversations with Quinn’s replacement.

“First of all, we lost a heck of a defensive coach that’s now going to be the head coach with the Washington team. And they are going to be formidable because he’s a good coach. But I’ve been on the phone all afternoon with our future defensive coach. We’re excited about that.”

Zimmer was on Dallas’ staff in 1995, when the Cowboys won their most recent Super Bowl to date. He served as a defensive assistant in 1994, was the defensive backs coach from 1995-1999 and the defensive coordinator from 2000-2006. After leaving Dallas, Zimmer became defensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons for a season then held the same role with the Cincinnati Bengals from 2008-2013 before becoming Minnesota’s head coach.
