The Dallas Cowboys added a former NFL All-Pro to the roster ahead of their Week 18 matchup.

On Saturday, the Cowboys revealed that they had signed Xavier Rhodes to their practice squad. Rhodes, an All-Pro selection in 2017 and a three-time Pro Bowler, joins the Cowboys after a stint in Buffalo. The Bills released Rhodes earlier this week and Dallas decided to pounce on him.

“ALERT: the Cowboys have signed former Pro Bowl & All-Pro cornerback Xavier Rhodes to the practice squad,” the team announced in a tweet Saturday afternoon.

Rhodes has led a solid career in the NFL The Minnesota Vikings drafted him in 2013. The Vikings are where he enjoyed much of his success. Rhodes was named a Pro Bowler in 2016, 2017, and 2019. 2017 was when the former Florida State standout was named an All-Pro as well.

After the Vikings released Rhodes in 2020, he went to the Indianapolis Colts. He played there for two seasons before joining the Bills this season.

The Cowboys are in need of cornerbacks, so this is a move that makes sense for both parties. As the article on Rhodes’ signing noted, “It’s yet another move for head coach Mike McCarthy and Dan Quinn in an attempt to strengthen the depth at cornerback following the season-ending injuries to both Jourdan Lewis and Anthony Brown.”

Dallas has an outside shot to win the NFC East Division. They need to defeat the Washington Commanders on Sunday and they need the New York Giants to beat the Philadelphia Eagles.
