Damien Wilson USA Today

The NFL has suspended free agent linebacker Damien Wilson for the next four weeks for violating the personal conduct policy.

It doesn’t appear any specifics were given on the cause of suspension, but the NFL’s personal conduct policy does detail character and conducting themselves in a specific way.

The prohibited conduct listed on the policy includes physical violence, sexual assault, disorderly conduct, stalking, harassment, etc.

Despite being a free agent, the policy still is issued pursuant to prospective players.

Wilson was arrested in April 2022 and faced an assault charge after allegedly threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend.

His ex-girlfriend, Ryan Sokolosky told the Dallas Morning News that she had ended her relationship with Wilson and he showed up to her residence where he “threated to kill her with a tire iron.”

Wilson was drafted in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys where he began his eight-year career in the league. He made stops with the Kansas City Chiefs, Carolina Panthers and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He finished the 2022 season with the Panthers tallying two sacks and 38 tackles in 17 games. He was released by the team on March 10. The team ultimately cleared some needed salary cap room in the process of his release. It turned out, the team’s defensive outlook didn’t have a fit for him — they were hoping for a linebacker who was bigger and more physical.

It doesn’t appear any teams made offers for Wilson since then.

Wilson earned a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs in 2019.
