Just over a week before the Broncos and Panther duke things out on the field, star players from the two teams are going up against each other in front of green screens in TV studios 1,500 miles apart.

Denver’s DeMarcus Ware and Carolina’s Luke Kuechly visited news stations in their home cities to take a turn at reporting the weather, reading off seven-day forecasts for the Bay Area, where they’ll play in Super Bowl 50.

One odd thing: Ware was asked to read the forecast for San Francisco, which included a lot of rain, while Kuechly delivered the forecast for San Jose, which had almost none. So even though the players were ostensibly looking at the weather for the same event, their forecasts were dramatically different.

The players’ appearances doing weather on the same day wasn’t a coincidence. Both spots were part of a Skittle promotion that the stations decided to shill for in exchange for these guys coming onto their shows.

Between these appearances and Mike Trout’s love of meteorology, weather seems to be a growing area of interest for professional athletes. Or Ware and Kuechly are just trying to sell Skittles.
