The Denver Broncos certainly didn’t envision a 5-12 season when they traded for new franchise quarterback Russell Wilson.

But that’s exactly what transpired as Wilson looked like one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL for much of the season.

The Broncos fired then-head coach Nathaniel Hackett and replaced him with Super Bowl champion coach Sean Payton, who has brought a new attitude to the team.

Payton’s first task will be fixing the play of Wilson. And though the quarterback has slimmed down, former Green Bay Packers Super Bowl champion James Jones, speaking during an appearance on FS1, predicted more troubles for the former All-Pro quarterback.

“Zero confidence in Russell Wilson,” Jones said.  When you watch a quarterback play, you say, all right he had about four bad games but he had three really good ones. However many Russ played last year, that’s how many bad ones he had in a row.”

Jones also predicted that Payton would bench Wilson in the middle of the season.

“I think it’s going to be middle of the season and you’re probably gonna see another QB in there,” Jones said.

If that’s the case, it could certainly be another long season for the Broncos as their trade for Wilson would officially become one of the worst in NFL history.
