Former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is officially on the free agent market and is free to sign with any team in the league. And the Carolina Panthers happen to be among the several teams that could be looking to improve their quarterback play this season. It’s fair to speculate that it would be a good match and that the team might be interested in Carr, but new head coach Frank Reich wasn’t ready to commit to anything yet.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Frank Reich was asked about the possibility of pursing Derek Carr. And while he certainly didn’t deny interest, he revealed that it might be a little too early for those conversations.

“Interesting question,” Reich said in his press conference according to Pro Football Talk. “We’re really literally sitting down with the guys today. First staff meeting will be tomorrow. But I’ve kind of met with guys individually saying, here’s what we’re doing. Step one, let’s evaluate our roster. So, we’re really just starting that process. So, step two, evaluate the free agents. Everybody got their list. Step three, now we’re going to the college guys.

“So, that process has literally [just] begun, so really not ready to discuss the specifics of that because we’re really just beginning.”

The Panthers started three different players at quarterback last year between Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, and P.J. Walker. They would obviously like to find some stability in that position this season.
