Free-agent quarterback Derek Carr will reportedly seek a big-time payday when he elects free agency.

Carr, who spent the last nine seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, parted ways with the team in the form of a release. Suitors will likely be around for the former Raiders quarterback. If they want him, they will reportedly have to pony up.

According to ESPN reporter Dianna Russini, Carr will look for a contract that pays him $35 million annually.

“ESPN’s Dianna Russini reports that Derek Carr is seeking $35 million per year in his upcoming free agent contract,” tweeted John Sigler of The Saints Wire.

According to Spotrac, a $35 million cap hit would place Carr eighth among active NFL quarterbacks. The QBs who would, theoretically, be above him in terms of annual cap hit are Deshaun Watson, Dak Prescott, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Ryan Tannehill, Kirk Cousins, and Matt Ryan.

Certainly, you can argue that if some of those quarterbacks totaled that much money annually, then a player like Derek Carr should as well. Carr has had a back-and-forth career, but for a lot of teams, he could be a legitimate answer. The New Orleans Saints and either of the New York teams, if Daniel Jones leaves the Giants, would likely apply there.

Derek Carr has totaled over 35,000 passing yards and over 215 touchdowns in his career.
