Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is notorious for his aggressive style of playcalling, but it’s safe to say he got a little too aggressive in the second half on Thursday afternoon’s game against the Green Bay Packers, and it cost them.

With just over five minutes to play in the third quarter of Thursday afternoon’s game, Dan Campbell dialed up a fake punt from the Lions’ own 23-yard line on fourth-and-3. It was an aggressive play call, but the Packers looked completely ready for it and the fourth-down conversion attempt failed.

The Packers took advantage of the good field position, quickly scoring a touchdown to take a 30-14 lead in the game.

The call might have been the difference in the game, and Lions coach Dan Campbell took the blame for the play call admitting that he shouldn’t have made that decision.

“Yeah, look, that’s a bad call on me,” Campbell said. “That’s a bad call. You know, I shouldn’t have done that to those guys. That’s a bad call. It’s a bad call. On me. It is. Shouldn’t have done that.”

Ultimately, the Lions still had a chance to come back after that, but the decision put the team in a deep hole they were unable to climb out of.
