The Philadelphia Eagles had a chance to end Week 6 as the only undefeated team in the league after the San Francisco 49ers lost on Sunday. Unfortunately for Eagles fans, they followed suit and a costly missed field goal from star kicker Jake Elliott was ultimately a big reason why.

Elliott has been widely praised for much of this season as one of the most consistent kickers in all of football. Coming into Week 6, Elliott had made 16 of his 17 field goal attempts on the year, with his only miss coming on a difficult 55-yard attempt.

He has also come through with some timely kicks, notably making a game-winning 54-yard field goal in overtime against the Washington Commanders

The Eagles would absolutely not have been an undefeated team coming into Week 6 if not for some of Elliott’s big moments this year. They are also undefeated no longer after Week 6 in large part due to Elliott’s rough miss on Sunday.

Elliott was given an opportunity in the fourth quarter to extend the Eagles’ lead with 8:17 remaining in the fourth quarter. It was a 37-yard attempt, a chip shot for someone with his talent. He went on to stun Eagles fans, missing the kick wide right.

The Eagles would go on to lose the game after some costly mistakes by their offense later on in the quarter. But Elliott’s miss obviously looms large in the loss, and fans were in disbelief when the normally steady kicker missed the easy attempt.

There was obviously far more than just Elliott’s mistake that went into this loss. Star quarterback Jalen Hurts threw three interceptions, including one that set up the scoring drive that ended up being the difference for the Jets.

That being said, this game could have gone far differently down the stretch if Elliott had made the kick.
